Unusual travel places to stay
I love exciting adventures. If you are an unusual traveller, then these places will be an awesome experience you will remember. Here is a list of unusual travel places that will transfer you into history, give you an opportunity to sleep under the starts and in the trees or bond with animals and if you love action, there is plenty of it sleeping next to waterfalls and rivers.
- Kagga Kamma: The “Open Air Room” is set on a platform of rock formations under the open sky. There is an outdoor bath, shower and a natural rock pool for the more adventurous travellers. To get there look up Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve, Breede River.
- Farm Sanctuary: Have you heard of Pigasso? At Franschhoek Farm Sanctuary you can share the open plan barn loft with some rescued farm animals, baby cow, the talented pig Pigasso, a donkey and some chickens.
- The Oxwagon Lodge: Ox wagons were essential for traveling through the rough landscapes of Southern Africa. The Voortrekkers used the wagons during the Great Trek in the 1830s and 1840s. At the Oxwagon Lodge, next to the Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West Province, you can sleep in the renovated ox-wagons. For budget-conscious travellers, there is also a backpacker dorm in a converted double-decker bus.
- Old Mac Daddy: I still love this place in Elgin. On the outside the camping caravans look like something out of “Whats Eating Gilbert Grape” and on the inside you can choose to be in any fairy tale you imagine.
- Castle in Clarens: If you enjoy “Black Adder”, this could be a fun place to visit. After our recent trip in Scotland, I fell in love with all the beautiful castles and the history I felt while walking through them. You can have a getaway in your own castle in Clarens. No one’s to grown up to dream, go on have some fun.
- Teniqua Treetops: These ecological unique tree houses are built in the forests of Knysna, Garden Route. This is a place I would love to take our little girl. It is a beautiful gift for children to learn about nature first hand. Tsitsikamma and Knysna forests are perfect for hikes and exploring.
- Mkambati Nature Reserve: This wild place is situated close to the boarded of KwaZulu Natal. Staying in the African style rondavel’s is a rad way to get in touch with local nature.
- Orange River Rafting:This is for the more adventurous souls. You can choose from 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 day adventure trip on the Orange river in the Richtersveld, Northern Cape.
